Prof. Dr. Syed Jamil Hasan Kazmi is an internationally recognized geographer, academic leader, and senior researcher with over 35 years of teaching, research, administrative, and consultancy experience in Pakistan and abroad. A Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow (USA) and DAAD Senior Research Fellow (Germany), he is widely known for pioneering contributions in Remote Sensing, GIS, environmental studies, climate change research, and urban ecology.
Dr. Kazmi has held several prestigious positions including Chairman, Department of Geography (University of Karachi), Director, Quality Enhancement Cell, Director, Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics, and Project Director for multiple World Bank–funded GIS initiatives. He currently serves as Executive Director of FHES, where he leads institutional development, academic quality enhancement, strategic expansion, and research capacity building.
A Meritorious Professor, he has been honored with numerous national and international awards such as the HEC Best University Teacher Award, Indus Conservation Award (WWF), ESRI GIS Excellence Award (USA), Scientific Contribution Award (Tehran), and recognition among the 150 Global Muslim Scientists (2023).
Dr. Kazmi has authored and edited major publications including the Oxford School Atlas for Pakistan (5th Edition), several books, and over 145 peer-reviewed research papers published in HEC W, X, and Y-category journals and international scientific outlets. His research impact includes 1586+ citations, H-Index 20, and i10-Index 40.
Internationally, he has served as Fellow, Advisor, or Committee Member for United Nations agencies, World Bank projects, Oxford University Press, WWF, IGU, AAG, and numerous academic councils and selection boards.
At FHES, Dr. Kazmi is leading the transformation of the institution through strategic planning, quality assurance, digitization, academic reforms, and fostering a culture of research and innovation.
